Scope Clause Impasse Delays E175 E2
Embraer has pushed back certification of its E175 E2 regional jet from 2020 to 2021. In a statement the Brazilian manufacturer said it was influenced by recent labor negotiations between US airlines and pilot unions, which didn’t produce hoped-for movement on scope clauses. In other words, maximum takeoff weight restrictions for 76-seat aircraft have not been raised.
Embraer now awaits the next round of talks in 2019 “at which time such restrictions may be revisited”. It added that the extension was also due to continued interest in the current generation E175 jet in the North American market. Nonetheless, certification and entry into service for the E190 E2 and E195 E2 remain on track for the first half of 2018 and in 2019, respectively.
