Engine MRO facility Aero Norway has been granted approval by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), allowing it to carry out engine maintenance for China-registered aircraft.

The certification follows an audit carried out by the Chinese regulator in September, and adds to existing approvals from the FAA, EASA and TCCA. The certification covers the full spectrum of services offered by the CFM authorised repair station across all three engine variants – CFM56-3, CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B.

Aero Norway is based near Stavanger Airport where it employs around 125 technicians and support staff. Glenford Marston, general manager at Aero Norway, said the firm sought CAAC approval in response to an “overwhelming” demand from its customer base, citing an example of leasing companies seeking to lease out engines in China. Marston said that the CAAC approval will strengthen Aero Norway in China.

“Multi-release certification means that we provide a portfolio of winning engine MRO services,” he said. “We see huge future potential in China and in 2017 we will be consolidating our presence with a dedicated business development resource in the region.”

Marston also confirmed that the firm is now looking to grow its services in South East Asia and the Middle East and has applied for Indonesian and UAE GCCA approval.
