Thailand to work with CAAi on improving ICAO compliance
The advisory arm of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has been appointed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to help improve the country’s safety oversight and compliance with ICAO.
Ten experts from CAA International (CAAi) will begin advising CAAT from this month in an effort to help recertify Thai-registered AOCs and address safety concerns raised by ICAO in 2015, which led to ICAO giving Thailand a red flag and instructing it to raise its safety standards.
The collaboration will cover all of ICAO’s eight critical elements of a safety oversight system before the UN body conducts another safety audit.
As part of the agreement, AAi will also give flight operations training to CAAT Inspectors, in an effort to raise their core inspectorate competencies to meet international standards.
